(Princeton > Boston) Now I'm in NYC

Following my Amtrak fiasco the other day (I'm not going into it - too many memories) I got to Princeton and got my stuff all sorted at my hotel just off Nassau Street, which is apparently the only hotel in town. A little jaunt to the only Starbucks, and I was ready to hit the only music department. Turns out Princeton isn't that big, but it is really nice, especially when it's sunny... even supposing the local colour is orange.

BOS, MIT, TEI

I arrived in Boston last night and went straight to my favorite local curry house. I really love Boston, and always look forward to coming here. This trip is no exception. I spent this morning at the new, shiny MIT Media Lab. I have spent time in their old building (right next door), but this is just  a different level. It only opened in November, and you can still smell the paint!! I'm going to be spending the next few days there for a conference / performance, and I can't wait! Make sure you watch the slideshow on the link above, it's really great.

I'll post some pics and videos of the project I'm here for, but right now I'm off for lunch with some friends! For "live" info of what I'm doing at the TEI conference, follow me on Twitter. I'll be keeping that going with pics as we go..!

Travel Day.

I'm heading off to LHR now; bags are packed, passport is ready and my noise-canceling headphones have been charged. I even have change for my en route coffee. Next stop, Boston! The TEI conference should be really interesting, and also, I get to spend a week in one of my favorite cities... it's a hard life.

If you want to meet up or have any suggestions of fun things to do, drop me an email [pg @ petergregson.co.uk] or on Twitter.

The week ahead, ending with TEI

As some of you know, last week I made a quick jaunt to Nottingham to do some preparatory work Sarah Kettley and Yann Seznec ahead of going to Boston next weekend for the TEI conference at MIT, Boston. Basically, it's a project involving stretch sensors weaved into a shirt that I wear to play; it maps my movements to sound, and is amazingly fun to play (any cellists out there, please ignore my posture: you have to do craaaaazy things to control the effects!) So, I leave on the 23rd, but this week is going to be really busy - it's my last completely "free" week, so I'm still packing in the hours, learning as much repertoire as I can before my usual normal schedule resumes..! I'm really looking forward to going to the Wigmore Hall on Wednesday (my birthday..) to hear Nico Muhly and the Britten Sinfonia - should be brilliant! I'm at the TEI the conference from 25-27th and have a few meetings, but if anyone out there is in the Boston area and wants to meet up, invite me to a tea party or just has a tip on things to do in the city, let me know! The last time I was in Boston, March 2009, I was playing a concert at Trinity Church. Time's really flown by since then..!
