Does an experience of New York change the appreciation of Steve Reich’s music, or an impression of Berlin the perception of Max Richter’s? In today’s increasingly connected world, people are exposed to a blurring flow of information; visual, auditory and factual. This unique project explored whether our perception of a city influences our appreciation of its music.
Featuring new compositions from New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, Berlin, Reykjavik and London, the relevant city will be brought into the concert hall for the duration of each piece, using location-aware, real-time internet sourced content: live video, geotagged photos, Twitter visualizers, trending locations and more. I formed and led a team to develop this concept, partnering with Microsoft Labs and Dr Tim Regan (Cambridge UK) for the concerts.
