New music that acts like old music is not new music.

The whole “why can’t contemporary music be more like contemporary art” thing is tiring. Why not look at this another way: new music that is designed to act like old music is not new music. if you want to look at something exciting for the future, if you want something bright and shiny to commission that is changing the landscape, go and look at generative music. I’m convinced this is the right space in which to be commissioning right now. NEC Excitement

I’m really excited to be able to announce that, as of the November 1st, I’m going to be doing a year long project with the wonderful Entrepreneurial Music Department at the New England Conservatory in Boston! I’m super excited, not just because I love Boston (I really, really do) but because NEC, under the leadership of Tony Woodcock and the Entrepreneurial Dept., headed up by Rachel Roberts, just feels like such an exciting place to be where everything’s happening.
